Closed Circuit

When is a magnetic circuit described as closed?

A closed magnetic circuit describes an arrangement of magnetic and ferrous material that connects the north pole of a magnet directly to the south pole. In a closed circuit, the magnetic field lines can flow freely from north to south, and the entire magnetic flux density is retained within the closed circuit. There is no external magnetic field in a closed circuit, because all of the magnetism is consumed within the circuit.
