Magnet types
Are there different types of magnets?
There are three types of magnets:
- Permanent magnets
- temporary magnets
- Electromagnets
Permanent magnets emit a magnetic field without the need for an external source of magnetism or electrical energy.
Temporary magnets behave like magnets when attached to or near something that emits a magnetic field, but lose this property when the source of the magnetic field is removed.
Electromagnets require current to behave like a magnet.
There are many different types of permanent magnet materials, each with its own unique properties. Each material has a family of qualities whose properties differ slightly from one another, but which are based on the same composition.
